I attended the Sedona Film Festival with Ali Selim and our film Sweet Land, and was given the Birkner Humanitarian Award for my work in combating discrimination and fighting for equal rights.
I got 2 shows off from Bent in London so I could fly to Dallas to receive The Elizabeth Birch Equality Award from the Human Rights Campaign at the Dallas-Fort Worth Black Tie Dinner. The Elizabeth Birch Equality Award is given annually to an individual, corporation or organization that has made a significant national contribution to lesbian and gay equality.
I was really honoured to receive the The Vito Russo Award at the GLAAD Media Awards in New York in March. My friend Jessica Lange presented it to me.
The award is presented to an openly gay or lesbian member of the entertainment or media community for outstanding contributions toward eliminating homophobia.
For my performance as Max in Bent at Trafalgar Studios, London, I was nominated for a Theatregoer's Choice Best Actor award.
